Software Architect · Tech Lead

Astana, Kazakhstan · open to relocation and remote work

Engineer and technical lead with end-to-end ownership of a cross-platform product — native backend services in C99 and Go, a React frontend, an Electron desktop build and an Android build through Capacitor. I own service architecture, build infrastructure and engineering standards. A background in embedded standards (MISRA-C, JSF AV) translates into predictable code and explicit error handling across every layer of the stack.

Offers

Four packages built on the same engineering. Each one is a complete engagement, from first call to handover.

Closed Systems & Reverse Engineering

Undocumented protocols, binary formats, legacy with no sources.

You own hardware or software that works, but nobody has the documentation, the vendor is gone or unwilling, and replacing it is not an option. I recover how it actually works, write the specification that never existed, and prove the result by execution rather than by assertion.

Protocol recovery
Binary formats
Legacy integration
Compatibility harness
Field verification

Starting point: Send what you have. Within a couple of days you get a written verdict on what can realistically be recovered — before either of us commits to a build.

Cross-Platform Products, End to End

One codebase shipping to web, Windows, Linux and Android.

A native core in C/C++ where speed, formats and devices matter, a React client for everything the user touches, and one build system that ships it all. You pay for one codebase instead of three contractors and the integration work between them.

C/C++ native core
React
Electron
Android via Capacitor
One build system
Architecture

Starting point: A free technical call, then an architecture diagram for a small fixed fee — yours to keep and build anywhere, with or without me.

Offline & Air-Gapped Systems

Software that works with no internet, and talks to your hardware.

Some environments have no connectivity — by regulation or by physics — and every off-the-shelf product assumes a cloud. I build systems that run on a disconnected machine, speak to the equipment you already own, and keep working when the link drops.

Offline-first
Air-gapped delivery
Hardware integration
Degrading links
Local compute
Audit trail

Starting point: An environment survey and integration map for a fixed fee — which devices, which protocols, what is feasible and what is not. Useful to you even if you never commission the build.

Technical Lead on Contract

Architecture, standards and review for a project pulling apart.

You have developers but no technical lead, or one project has gone out of control. I take ownership of architecture, standards, review and integration, pull the technical debt down while the product keeps shipping, and hand the role back to someone on your side.

Architecture
Code audit
Standards & automation
Code review
Integration
Technical debt

Starting point: A fixed-fee repository audit of about a week, delivered as a written report with priorities. Worth having even if nothing follows — your own team can execute it.

Work Experience

Lead Developer → Acting Head of Development Department @Kazakhstan GIS Center

August 2025 – Present · Astana

Progression: Frontend Developer → Fullstack Developer → System Architect → Tech Lead → Acting Head of Department (July 2026). Product: a cross-platform offline geospatial platform for a state customer, with Electron desktop and Android builds that are fully operational without internet access or external services, exchanging data over a local network. Architecture: a monorepo of 15+ native microservices in C99 and Go bound to localhost under an in-house supervisor, with a React frontend talking to them over HTTP and WebSocket — HTTP was chosen over JNI/IPC glue deliberately, for modularity and independent delivery of components.

C99
Go
React
Electron
Capacitor
deck.gl
SQLite
WebSocket
mDNS/DNS-SD
CMake
Key Responsibilities:
  • Designed the service contour and a mandatory /manifest health contract; built the process orchestrator covering startup, discovery, soft liveness checks, versioning, port reclamation and exponential polling backoff.
  • Migrated seven native services from a process model to C-ABI shared libraries running under Electron utilityProcess; consolidated the Go services into a single library through go-uber-bind.
  • Wrote a native C renderer for industry topographic formats (SXF/RSC) from scratch, portable to Android: custom reprojection grid, PNG output with correct alpha, tile caching.
  • Removed the Cesium dependency entirely and rebuilt the 2.5D map engine on deck.gl.
  • Replaced a 473,000-file terrain tree with a single SQLite store using an R-tree index; built a tile server with a read-only connection pool, HTTP cache validation and vendored libwebp for a self-contained binary.
  • Implemented offline routing (A*, covering indexes over graph edges, off-road traversability) and a C99 event-journal service.
  • Designed the LAN data-exchange protocol: dependency-light node discovery over mDNS/DNS-SD, unicast with acknowledgements, and automatic coordinator re-election on link loss.
  • Reverse-engineered a third-party vendor's wire contract and delivered two-way interoperability: simultaneous server and client roles, relaying, conflict resolution and synchronous object deletion.
  • Integrated external video and telemetry sources: RTMP→FLV media server, live stream playback in the UI through jMuxer, MQTT telemetry, device channels over Bluetooth SPP.
  • Migrated the frontend monolith to Feature-Sliced Design with a plugin system (four product plugins, ~25 auto-filled screen forms); cut hot-reload turnaround from 15–50 s to ~1 s and restored HMR on Windows.
  • Set up Windows-native builds on MSYS2 clang64 with a pinned toolchain, a portable .exe distribution without node_modules or source maps, and Android .aar and ARM64 APK builds; brought the tile server to zero warnings under -Wall -Wextra -Wpedantic.
  • As acting head: introduced QA checklists for four languages (JS, Go, C++98, C99) adapted from Automotive SPICE practice, code-review gates, a module ownership map and database schema norms; consolidated documentation into a single vault, rolled out kanban coverage across 19 microservices and a tech-debt board.
  • Contribution: 513 commits between January and September 2026 across 41,783 changed files; sole maintainer of the master branch and of the project changelogs since the first day of the project.

My Projects

xcompmgr-dana

C
X11
XCB
Compositing
OpenGL

A compositor for X11 — a fork of picom with two changes to how things are drawn, adding a notification overlay, animations, blur, rounded corners and forced transparency. Not a rewrite: the git history is unbroken back to Keith Packard's 2003 reference implementation of the Composite extension, through Dana Jansens' xcompmgr-dana, Christopher Jeffrey's compton and Yuxuan Shui's picom.

xsetrootpx

C
X11
Meson

A fork of X.Org's xsetroot that can put a real picture on the root window. xsetroot has been able to load a file onto the root window since 1987 — but only XBM: one bit per pixel, black and white. Everyone works around that with a separate program (feh, hsetroot, xwallpaper, nitrogen), none of which ship with X. This extends the same built-in ability to the image formats people actually use.

QRPrinter

ZPL
Zebra
REST API

Software with an API for driving Zebra printers — generating ZPL QR codes and printing schedules in bulk.
